Questions about Soy Milk
Is Taiwanese soy milk the same as the soy milk sold at home?
It is freshly ground and boiled that morning, served hot in a bowl or cup rather than cold from a carton, and it is sweeter and rounder in flavour. Say 熱 for hot or 冰 for iced, and 無糖 if you want it unsweetened — the default is sweet (甜).
How is it drunk at breakfast?
With something fried to dip into it: a stick of 油條, or a 燒餅. The savoury version, 鹹豆漿, is a different thing — the same soy milk curdled with vinegar into a soft soup with dried shrimp, pickles and fried dough, eaten with a spoon. A cup is NT$20–35 at any 豆漿店.
What is Soy Milk?
Soy milk ground fresh every morning, served hot or iced and either sweetened (甜豆漿) or plain (無糖). It is thicker and beanier than boxed soy milk, and most people drink it with 油條 dipped in.
What does it taste like?
How much does it cost?
NT$20–35 per cup
